A 27-year-old youth from Baghat area in uptown Srinagar was found hanging under mysterious circumstances at his apartment in New Delhi on Tuesday, his family said. 

The youth, Aqif Rashid Bhat, son of Abdul Rashid Bhat, was putting up at the apartment in Delhi along with his room mate from Mumbai, who was currently on leave, Rashid told Greater Kashmir.

Aqif was found hanging inside his apartment by one of his acquaintances at around 8 pm on Tuesday after which he contacted the family members currently putting up in New Delhi, Rashid said.

Aqif's cousin, Irshad Ahmad Bhat, who was among the family members, who brought Aqif's body from Delhi home on Wednesday, said he bore injury marks on his face and arm making the family suspect a "murder".

As per Irshad, at least two persons familiar with the circumstances around Aqif's death are still absconding with the police yet to trace them.

The family has demanded a thorough investigation into the incident to bring truth to the fore.

A police official from Police Station Sadder Barzulla Baghat said that an investigation into the incident is going on.
