SSA row: Government forms 5-member committee

The government on Monday constituted a five-member committee to review the issue of Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) teachers and suggest measures for addressing the problem.

The order in this regard was issued by commissioner secretary general administration department (GAD).

   

“The committee will devise a comprehensive strategy to review the issues of all schools teachers in the department including those funded under the on-going centrally sponsored scheme SSA and suggest solutions as well,” reads the government order.

The committee comprises of administrative secretary finance department as its chairman while as administrative secretary planning and development department, administrative secretary higher education department, administrative secretary GAD are its members and administrative secretary school education department will be the members secretary of the committee.

“The committee will examine the whole issue of SSA teachers, their appointment, salaries and clearly identify the cause of the problem and possible means of addressing the same,” the orders states.

The order states that the possible means of addressing includes rationalization of schools, teachers and the staff as per the national norms.

“Committee should clearly identify the surplus schools and posts viz-a-viz national norms for appropriate decisions,” the order reads.

The committee has been given the mandate to also suggest other reform measures which could help in addressing the problem.

“The committee shall be served by school education department and will submit interim report by August 16,” the order reads. As per the order, the committee has to submit its final report on the terms of references by November 10.
