An attempt to set ablaze a Government school building here in central Kashmir district was foiled by the staff members of the school last night.

An attempt to set ablaze a Government school building here in central Kashmir district was foiled by the staff members of the school last night.

Sources said the fire broke out in the Government Middle school Baserbugh around 8:30 pm on Wednesday evening. The fire was noticed by the teacher and Chowkidar who were on night duty. They immediately doused the fire and prevented the school building from getting damaged.

The night duty staff, sources said, had noticed some suspicious moment prior to the incident, adding that as the staff went to have dinner the fire broke out in the store room of the school building that was noticed immediately. "The timely action of our alert night duty staff prevented the fire from spreading. Minor damage was caused to some furniture in the room" the Chief Education Officer Ganderbal, Soni Sanam told Greater Kashmir.

She said that they have lodged a complaint and Police are investigating.

A police official said that it was a mysterious fire incident, adding that they have taken up investigations to know the actual cause of the fire.

Meanwhile, a mysterious fire gutted a residential cum watch room here at Shalbugh wetland in Ganderbal district.

Sources said the fire erupted in the watch room on early Thursday morning and gutted the structure. "The fire erupted due to the gas leakage, adding that further investigations have been taken up" a police official said.
