Stranded J&K residents demand evacuation

Scores of J&K residents stuck in Mumbai and Chandigarh due to the ongoing covid19 lockdown, Wednesday appealed to J&K authorities to facilitate their return back home.

The stranded people including students, families, labourers,businessmen, artisans and some families appealed to the authorities tointervene and help them get movement passes so that they could return to theirhomes.

   

Around 15 families fromJammu and Kashmir are stranded in Mumbai. These families had gone there formedical treatment of family members.

 “We had come here fora treatment of child. The sudden nationwide lockdown left us stranded inMumbai. With the extension in lockdown up to 3 May 2020, we are helpless” saidAH Bhat, head of a stranded family in Mumbai.

He said the stranded families have taken up their grievanceand demand for evacuation with Mumbai and J&K authorities through phonecalls, representations through Whatsapp and other similar methods.

Another stranded familyin Mumbai said that they have also contacted on the helplines circulated byJ&K government for stranded people “and are waiting for help to come.” Headded that stranded families belong to both Jammu and Kashmir divisions.

“There are also cases of children stranded in Mumbai andparents in Srinagar and vice versa. Our appeal is to evacuate us from here,”said Khalid-ur-Rehman, who is also stranded in Mumbai.

Similarly, a group of Kashmiri students from Chandigarh saidthat there are around fifty persons including some families, artisans,labourers and business men they knew who are stuck in Chandigarh.

Zaid Bin Bilal, a Kashmiri student stranded in Chandigarhsaid that they are demanding evacuation. “We request our government to facilitate our return to Kashmir,” hesaid.

Greater Kashmir received similar phone calls fromartisans, labourers, and businessmen stranded in Delhi, Haryana and otherplaces.

The government of India ordered countrywide 21 days lockdownin second week of last month and extended it now up to 3 May 2020, to containpandemic.
