Sub-zero temperatures in most Kashmir parts

Srinagar, Nov 26: After witnessing a slight improvement in night temperatures on Thursday, most parts of Kashmir saw night temperature settle below the freezing point on Friday. Kokernag town in south Kashmir was the only recorded place where the minimum temperature stayed above the freezing point.

Summer capital Srinagar recorded a low of minus 1.3 degrees Celsius during the intervening night of Thursday and Friday. This temperature was 1.7 degrees down from 0.4 degrees Celsius during Wednesday night, Meteorological Department data stated.

   

Pahalgam in south Kashmir recorded a low of minus 3.3 degrees Celsius, down from minus 0.2 degrees Celsius on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.

The south Kashmir resort was the coldest recorded place in Kashmir.

Ski-resort Gulmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district recorded a minimum temperature of minus 1.8 degrees Celsius. The MeT department has said the weather “will most likely remain dry and cold till the end of this month”.

Kupwara in north Kashmir saw temperature settle at a low of minus 1.9 degrees Celsius. Qazigund, the gateway town to the valley, recorded minus 1.2 degrees Celsius while Kokernag registered a low of 0.6 degrees Celsius.
