Take varsity’s poplars report on record: High Court

The High Court today directed that the reports prepared by J&K Forest Department and Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) Awantipora on poplars in Kashmir be taken on record. 

As a Public Interest Litigation came up for hearing, additional advocate general Asifa Padroo informed the court that the forest department has prepared a report on environmental impact of poplars in Kashmir. 

   

“Let the same be brought on record,” a division bench of Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice Alok Aradhe said in response to Padroo’s submission. 

Advocate Moksha Kazmi who was sitting in the court also informed it that IUST has also prepared a report on benefits of poplar trees as well their environmental degradation. 

“Let the report be also brought on record,” the court said. 

Meanwhile the court sought to know about the outcome of the proceedings initiated before Municipal Magistrate Srinagar.
