Teachers lock Directorate office for salary release

Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReTs) Wednesday locked the main gate of Directorate of Education Kashmir here as a mark of protest to press for release of their withheld salaries.

Protesters alleged that their salaries have been withheld from past six months, causing immense hardships to their families. "We are at the verge of starvation," they said.

Earlier, the protestors assembled under the banner of Jammu and Kashmir Rehbar-e-Taleem Forum at Press Enclave here and raised pro-justice slogans.

They raised slogans against government for its failure to streamline the SSA salaries.  They held placards which read: "Justice Delayed is Justice Denied".

While speaking to media persons, Chairperson Farooq Ahmad Tantray  accused the authorities of taking the ReTs to the verge of starvation.

"The ReT community is passing through traumatizing situation as their salaries remain unpaid from months together. The tall claims of streamlining of ReT salaries from April by Education Minister Altaf Bukhari have fallen flat and teachers are made to suffer for none of their faults," he added.

Pitting for early de-linking of the Forum Jahangir Alam Khan demanded release of all the pending salaries and arrears of ReT teachers. He flayed release of  a  month's of salary and described it as cruel joke with nation builders.

"We never want to leave our institution rather we work in the difficult situations in the most inaccessible areas of the state. Financial constraints have forced us to hit the streets and raise our voices for our genuine rights", he said.
