Thousands attend last rites of slain militant in Sopore in north Kashmir

Thousands of people on Wednesday morning attended the last rites of slain Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) militant Abdul Majeed Mir of Tujjar in Sopore, who was killed along with his associate in a gunfight yesterday.

An eye witness said that thousands of people from Sopore, Zainageer areas and other adjoining localities assembled at the slain militant’s native village to offer funeral prayers.

Large number of mourners shouting pro-freedom slogans carried Majeed’s body in a procession to the graveyard for burial.

Majeed and his associate, a top LeT commander Abu Maaz, were killed in a 20-hour-long gunfight encounter in Nowpora area of the apple town.

Meanwhile, Sopore and its adjoining areas observed a complete shutdown against the militant killings.
