Three persons died after they were caught in a snow blizzard near Khoni Nallah in Sadhna Top area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district last night, officials said.
A police official said six persons were moving by foot from Kupwara to Karnah when the blizzard hit the area. “Three persons managed to reach Sahna top despite the blizzard and soon after reaching there they informed the army about their three missing companions,” he said.
He said that an army party reached near Khoni Nallah and found the three persons lying dead on the road at around 3 AM.
Confirming the deaths, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP), Kupwara Ambarkar Shriram Dinkar said the trio were caught in the snow blizzard.
The road from Kupwara to Karnah has been closed for traffic movement due to bad weather.
The official identified the deceased as Tahir Khoja son of Youns Khoja resident of Hajinard Karnah, Khaliq Shiekh son of Qadir Shiekh resident of Hajinard of Karnah, Fareed Ahmad son of Lal-din resident Shamspora of Karnah.
