Timber smugglers attack forest official in Shopian

A Block Forest Officer sustained grave injuries after he was attacked by smugglers at a village in south Kashmir’s Shopian district late Wednesday night.

An official said that Mohammad Abdullah Bhat was attackedwith sharp-edged weapons by a group of smugglers in Nasserpora village of thedistrict at around 11.45 pm.

   

He said that Bhat came under attack when he along with otherforest officials tried to seize the timber-laden horses of the smugglers.

“The smugglers armed with axes and knives outnumbered theforest officials,” the official added.

Bhat, according to the official, suffered injuries in hishead and face. He was immediately rushed to district hospital Pulwama wherefrom he was sent to SMHS hospital in Srinagar for advanced treatment.
