Two hunters missing after avalanche strikes Lolab in north Kashmir’s Kupwara

Two persons went missing after a snow avalanche struck Lolab area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district late Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

An official said that three persons, including two brothers, who had gone for hunting in Rang Warnow forests, 40 km from Kupwara town, were swept away by a snow avalanche. “One among the trio, identified as Abdul Rashid Hajam, son of Younis Hajam, managed his way out and reached a nearby village in the evening where he informed locals and the police about the tragedy,” said the official.

He said a rescue operation was launched at the crack of dawn to trace the missing duo – Bashir Ahmad Hajam, son of Younis Hajam and Mamdin Hajam, both residents of Rang Warnow.

In March last year, a snow avalanche hit Dardpora area of Lolab in which three persons died. Their bodies were recovered after six days. The trio had also gone to the forests for hunting, but an avalanche swept them at Lashkote – the top forest area of Dardpora Lolab.
