At least two persons were killed and five injured after a pine tree fell on a passenger vehicle near Banihal on Srinagar-Jammu highway on Monday.
Station House Officer (SHO) Ramsoo Muneer Khan told Greater Kashmir that a Tavera heading towards Jammu from Anantnag in south Kashmir came under the tree at Magerkote – 17 km from Banihal.
He said that the vehicle was mangled in the incident, resulting into at least two deaths and five injuries.
Khan said that the injured were shifted to Ramsoo hospital for treatment.
The deceased have been identified as Kuldeep Kumar of Noushera and Gulzar Ahmad Dar of Mattan, Anantnag.
He said that men and machinery are on the job to evacuate the bodies from the vehicle.
Reports said that road widening work was in progress in the area when the incident happened.
