Two LeT militants held with arms and ammunition, Rs 2.9 lakh cash in Shopian: police

Srinagar Dec 5: Police along with security forces claimed to have arrested two LeT militants in south Kashmir’s Shopian and recovered arms and ammunition from their possession.

As per a police handout, the accused duo-Shahid Ahmad Ganie, son of Gulzar Ahmad Ganie, a resident of Doomwani Keegam and his associate Kifayat Ayoub Alie, son of Mohd Ayoub Alie of Pinjoora Shopian- was held by the local police alongwith 44RR and 14Bn CRPF during a joint cordon and search operation at village Doomwani near Rambi Ara.

   

The search operation was launched by the security forces acting on specific input regarding presence of the duo in the area, police said.

“When joint parties of Police and SFs approached to the suspected spot, the two suspects tried to flee from the spot. However, the duo were arrested tactfully by the joint search parties, ” it added.

As per police, “incriminating materials”, arms and ammunition including one Chinese pistol, a pistol magazine, two Chinese hand grenades, eight pistol rounds were recovered from their possession, besides cash amount of Rs 2.9 lakh rupees were also recovered from their possession.

In this regard a case FIR No.294/2021 under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigation has been taken up, added the police statement.
