Two Pulwama residents arrested in Poonch, two AK 56 rifles recovered: Police

Two residents of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district were detained by the government forces in Poonch district of Jammu region on Wednesday, police said.

An official said the duo was travelling in a vehicle (JK01R 5936) heading towards Mendhar from Surankote which was intercepted by the Special Operations Group Poonch and 25 RR unit of the army near Jaranwali Gali.

   

The duo, including the driver of the vehicle, were detained and questioned, said the official.

They were identified as Shabir Ahmed son of Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din and Mohammad Aqib – both residents of Kakapora Pulwama.

“During the search [of the vehicle], two AK 56 rifles and two magazines were recovered,” said the official, adding that searches are underway in several villages in the area to look for more suspects.
