Ummat- e- Islami (UeI) Jammu Kashmir today condemned arrest of the two brothers of its leader Moulana Sajjad Hashmi by police in Pulwama, terming it as "unjustified"

"In the ongoing crackdown launched by the police against the UeI leaders, the police on Tuesday arrested two brothers of one of its leaders, Moulana Sajad Hashmi, in Pulwama. While arresting Shahnawaz Hashmi, 35, and Shabir Hashmi, 19, police officials warned the family that the brothers will be under custody till Moulana Hashmi surrenders before the police. Earlier, Kakapora police station in Pulwama district had served him a notice. Moulana Hashmi has been very active in Pulwama and Shopian districts, organizing and addressing large number of rallies during the last three months of the civilian uprising," said a spokesman of the UeI, in a statement today, said.

Meanwhile, the incarcerated chairman of UeI Mirwaiz Qazi Yasir condemned the "crackdown" against the party leaders.

"Police has been on hunt for the Ummat e Islami leadership. Arrest of Moulana Sarjan Barkati, Moulana Mudasir Siddiqui, and now arrest of Moulana Sajad Hashmi's brothers are exposing the animosity of the government towards the pro-resistance amalgam," the spokesman quoted Mirwaiz Yasir saying
