Fire damaged two buildings housing a cantonment of paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) in Karan Nagar area of Srinagar on Thursday.
Officials said a major tragedy was averted as the fire was brought under control immediately.
"Ten fire tenders were put to service as lot of ammunition was stored in the cantonment. The ammunition was shifted from the camp immediately and by the grace of Almighty no explosions took place and lives were saved," said Muhammad Akbar, Deputy Director Fire and Emergency Services Kashmir.
He said there was no immediate report of any injuries so far.
