Wachi residents protest, accuse authorities of depriving them from sanctioned college

Dozens of residents from Wachi area of Shopian district held protests here on Thursday accusing authorities of deliberately depriving them from degree college already sanctioned by the government.

The residents who assembled at press colony said that thecollege was sanctioned to Zainapora and Wachi. “But we don’t understand whyauthorities are giving it to Reshipora who don’t want it due to unavailabilityof land, they (Reshipora residents) even went to court of law to bring stay butstill authorities are hell-bent to deprive us from college,” said MohammadShabaan, a Wachi resident.

   

The residents said that the degree college was initiallysanctioned to Zainapora and Wachi but due to unavailability of land inZainapora, Wachi was the only proposed site for college.

“We have state land of around 80 kanals and as perrequirements our Wachi locality fulfills every requirement, we don’t understandwhy they are giving it to Reshipora area, our students have to travel more than20 kilometers for nearest college and still authorities are taking the issuecasually,” said Ali Mohammad, another resident.

The aggrieved residents said that officials visited Wachifor the assessment of proposed site but they are failing to understand why theyare still being deprived from the educational instruction.

The residents said from last year they are going from pillarto post in order to solve their issue but they are receiving a cold shoulderfrom authorities.

“Other than promises from higher officials, we are receivingnothing,” the protesting residents said.

They appealed the state governor for intervention into thematter so that they don’t have to suffer any more.
