Weather likely to remain dry for a week across Jammu and Kashmir

Weather across Jammu & Kashmir will remain largely drywith a scanty rainfall in higher reaches during the first week of this month,MeT officials said. The officials said presently there is a western disturbanceprevailing over Jammu and Kashmir “which is not likely to have any majorinfluence over the weather.”

As per MeT prediction, Srinagar will witness cloudy skies on3-4 December and maximum temperature will remain 8-9 degrees Celsius.”Thereafter, sky conditions are expected to remain clear till 7 December,” saida MeT official.

   

The minimum temperature in Srinagar could fall to minus 2-3degree till 7 December, which is few notches below the normal.

Jammu is expected to have a warm start to December withmostly clear skies. Maximum temperature in Jammu is expected to remain around25 degrees and minimum temperature between 8-9 degrees till 7 December.

On Sunday, Srinagar recorded a maximum temperature of 10.8degrees and the minimum temperature stood at minus 0.9 degrees. However, theearly morning sun provided relief to residents both in Kashmir and Jammuregions.

The famous ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir, whichexperienced several feet of snowfall last week, was the coldest place in theValley with a low of minus 8.0 degrees Celsius.

Pahalgam hill resort in south Kashmir also recorded aminimum of minus 6.6 degrees Celsius while Kupwara township of north Kashmirrecorded a low of minus 3.2 degrees Celsius.

Katra, which serves as the base camp for pilgrims visiting Vaishno Devi Shrine in Reasi district of Jammu region, recorded a low of 7.8 degrees Celsius, an official said adding Bhadarwah township of Doda district was, however, the coldest place in the region with a minimum of 0.2 degrees Celsius.
