Women should become agents of change: National Conference

Srinagar, Nov 26: National Conference (NC) Women’s Wing President Shameema Firdous Friday called for more action on ensuring women live a life free of violence and coercion.

A statement of NC issued here said that addressing NC’s women’s wing functionaries at party’s Nawa-e-Subha headquarters in Srinagar on the ‘International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women’, Firdous said that party’s women wing functionaries, who come from varied backgrounds and regions of J&K could play a pivotal role in achieving that end by becoming agents of change in their respective localities.

Strengthening the party’s commitments to address violence against women, she said the party’s manifesto ‘Naya Kashmir’ was a holistic vision that strives to create safer spaces for women.

“It is with this view that we are stressing on having more educated women in our rank and file. Having more educated women in decision-making positions in the party will make the party policies more attuned to the issues faced by our mothers and sisters,” she said.
