Yasin Malik condemns slapping PSA on Zahoor Bhat

Chairman Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Muhammad Yasin Malik has condemned slapping of Public Safety Act on Zahoor Ahmad Bhat and his shifting to Kathua Jail.

“Zahoor Bhat was arrested by police on concocted charges on 8th August 2018 and kept at police station Nowhatta before being shifted to Kathua jail,” JKLF spokesperson said in a statement.

Malik condemned continued “suppression” of political voices in Jammu Kashmir. “From 2009, police arrested Bhat more than a dozen times and booked him under PSA. He has spent many years in jail during these years. It is worth to mention that 70-year old ailing JKLF organizer Siraj Ud Din Mir and district president Baramulla Abdul Rashid Magloo are also languishing in Kotbalwal jail under PSA from last many months. While another JKLF leader Sheikh Nazir Ahmad is also serving life term in the same jail,” Malik said.

“Authorities are trying everything to prolong their incarceration. Arrests, slapping PSA on those arrested especially political activists and shifting theses inmates hundreds of kilometers away from their families that too on the occasion of Eid is worst dictatorship in the garb of democracy,” he added.

“Though jails and incarcerations are not new for people in resistance but rulers who claim to be champions of democracy and propagate high morals and principles by caging down,” he said
