Youth clash with police, vandalise cars in Aala Peer Poonch

Police on Friday resorted to tear gas shelling after a mob damaged vehicles at a market in Aala Peer area of Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir.

An eye witness said that policemen were deployed in the area in view of the protests held against the killing of 49 CRPF personnel in a bomb in Pulwama district of Kashmir yesterday.

   

He said that the mob which had assembled to protest the Pulwama attack vandalised three cars and smashed the windowpanes of a residential house belonging to Muslims in Aala Peer area following which the police fired tear gas shells to disperse them.

The mob also tried to damage the shops belonging to Muslims, he said.

An official said that the situation was brought under control by the police.

In Jammu district, mobs torched dozens of vehicles in Gujjar Nagar area, predominantly inhabited by Muslims.

Curfew was imposed in the district following the violence that has left at least 12 people injured.
