Youth sacrificing their lives for a greater cause: Geelani

Paying glowing tributes to the militants slain in Letpora gunfight, Hurriyat (G) chairman, Syed Ali Shah Geelani said, “The youth are sacrificing their precious lives for a greater cause to serve the nation and we are duty-bound to carry their mission to its logical end.”

Blaming India’s “haughty” and “stubborn” approach for “continuous bloodshed” in the state, Geelani, in a statement today, said: “We are a peaceful nation and frequent incidents of encounters resulting into killing of our youth is a matter of serious concern to us.”

   

“We have sacrificed six lakh souls for its resolution and even now youth are laying their lives for its (Kashmir’s) settlement,” Geelani said, adding that “people should safeguard these sacrifices, and boycott upcoming Panchayat elections.”

Geelani has also condoled the demise of the sister of Hurriyat general secretary Ghulam Nabi Sumji, praying for the deceased and expressing solidarity with the bereaved family. “Meanwhile, Tehreek-e-Huriyat leader Bashir Ahmad Qureshi led funeral prayers of slain youth Fardeen Ahmad Khan and expressed his sympathy and condolences with bereaved family,” a Hurriyat spokesman, in a statement today, said.

SEMINAR

Hurriyat is organizing a seminar titled “Kashmir conflict and right to self-determination” on January 4, Thursday, Hyderpora here.  Besides Geelani, prominent intellectuals, journalists and other dignitaries will speak on the occasion.
