Youth’s body fished out from Jhelum in south Kashmir’s Kakapora a day after drowning

Srinagar, Jun 8: A team of State Disaster Response Force on Tuesday retrieved body of a 24-year-old man from river Jhelum in Kakapora area in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district a day after he drowned in the water body.

The rescue operation was launched Monday morning after Manzoor Ahmad, son of Mushtaq Ahmed Murad, a resident of Hayatpora area of Chadoora in central Kashmir’s Budgam district reportedly drowned in the river while extracting sand.

   

News agency GNS while quoting an official reported that soon after receiving information about the accident, a team of SDRF assisted by civilians launched an operation to trace the youth.

However with no success made for the day, the operation was suspended for the night and resumed this morning, the official said.

The body of the youth was finally found this afternoon after hours of hectic searches in the water body, he added.

A police official confirming the recovery of the youth told GNS that the body has been handed over to the family after conduct of necessary medico-legal formalities.
