Among more than 800 vehicles that moved from Drass to Srinagar on Srinagar-Leh Highway on Sunday afternoon, many are stuck at Zojila due to slippery condition of the road.

Besides, there are more than 450 Kargil-bound vehicles along with passengers at Sonamarg waiting for their turn to reach their destinations.

Chairman J&K Legislative Assembly, Haji Anayat Ali, said that he visited

Sonanmrg today to find some solution for traffic restoration till 5 pm but due to snowfall and due to non-clearance of traffic from Drass side it was not possible to allow vehicles from Srinagar to move towards Kargil.

He added that if weather and road conditions permit, the Kargil-bound vehicles stranded at Sonamarg will be allowed to move towards Kargil.

Officials said that the Srinagar-Leh highway was thrown open after closure of four days on Sunday afternoon, however no vehicle was allowed to proceed from Sonamarg on Monday.

Earlier, the road was closed on 5th November after heavy snowfall at Zojila Pass and was reopened on 8th after which hundreds of stranded vehicles on Drass side of the Zojila Pass were allowed to move towards words Sonamarg.

Several Kargil traders who reached Sonamarg said that they have not stocked essential commodities for winter yet.

However CEO LAHDC Kargil, Haji Haneefa Jan, said though they have completed the ration stocking for winter but still need additional stocking of k-oil and flour.
