Ladakh needs to focus on sustainable farm-based livelihoods: Dy CEC Leh

A daylong awareness and training programme for poultry rearing under ATMA scheme was held by animal husbandry department Chanspa on Monday. 

Deputy chief executive councillor, Leh, Gyal P Wangyal presided over as the chief guest of the function in which 25 farmers participated. The participants were informed about various government schemes and how to avail the benefits. 

   

Deputy CEC handed over 100 chicks each to five beneficiaries selected by Rural Development Department under RURBAN scheme in Choglamsar and Spituk. The animal husbandry department has provided Rs 30,000 to the beneficiaries to built poultry houses. He also visited the cattle breeding and research farm accompanied by CAHO Mohd Iqbal, BDO Leh Deepali Khanna and doctors of AHD, Leh.

Addressing the gathering Gyal Wangyal said, “Tourism today has undoubtedly become one of the major sources of income for Ladakhis but we need to base our livelihood on sustainable farm-based economy to ensure more secure and sustainable sources of income.” 

He urged the farmers to understand and implement on the schemes provided by government through different departmental schemes.
