3.6-magnitude earthquake jolts Kashmir

An earthquake of 3.6 magnitude jolted Kashmir valley on Tuesday night, according to the National Center for Seismology (NCS), Ministry of Earth Sciences (MoES).

The earthquake struck at 9:40 PM IST at a depth of 5 km from the surface, said the agency, without elaborating on the epicentre of the quake.

   

However, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) and United States Geological Survey (USGS) put the magnitude as 4.0 on the Richter scale.

As per USGS, the three countries affected by the quake were India, China and Pakistan. EMSC said the epicentre of the quake was the Kashmir-Xinjiang border region.

There was no immediate report of any loss of life or property.
