Day 2: Mughal Road closed

Rajouri, Apr 15: Vehicular movement on Mughal Road Monday remained suspended for the second consecutive day as the area from Poshana to Pir Ki Gali, towards Shopian district, received fresh snowfall.

Fresh snowfall as well as continuous slide and shooting stones hampered road restoration work by the engineering department.

The road was closed by the Poonch administration late Saturday evening.

“No movement of vehicles will take place on the road from Sunday morning onwards till further notice,” it had informed people.

On Monday also, this important road, connecting Poonch district with Shopian and thus acting as an alternative to the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway, remained closed for movement of all types of vehicles.

Deputy SP Traffic Mohammad Nawaz said, “Multiple landslides have taken place on the road, blocking it completely for the movement of vehicles.”

He said that restoration of the road would take some time as the area was continuously experiencing landslides and shooting stones.

Deputy SP further said that the concerned engineering wing tried to carry out road clearance work on Monday but it was hampered due to bad weather conditions, shooting stones and fresh snowfall.
