Wakura residents demand widening, upgradation of vital road link

The residents of Wakura in central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district have demanded the widening and upgradation of a vital road link Gamwari-Wakura . According to the locals , the road is very narrow and has eroded from one side causing inconvenience to the people particularly commuters traveling on the road. Locals said that the road link is used by hundreds of people on a daily basis for commuting. A local Ghulam Mohammad said that at times it gets difficult to walk on the road particularly during rain or snow .

   

The locals have urged the concerned authorities to take necessary steps to redress the issue.

 

 

Monkeys create panic in Kangan areas

 

The residents of various areas of tehsil Gund in Ganderbal district have complained about the menace of monkeys in their areas for the last several months accusing the authorities particularly the wildlife department of being negligent about the issue.

The locals said that huge flocks of monkeys have wreaked havoc in many villages of this tehsil with people apprehensive of their safety. “Monkeys have posed a threat to the crops during summer and now grains as well here in Sumbal, Surfraw , Ganiwan and other adjoining villages, located close to forests” the locals said.

They said that the residents watch helplessly while the monkeys damage their crops, even attack them as well. The residents from these areas of tehsil Gund complained that the monkeys are destroying their standing crops during summer months for the last several months adding that this has become a major concern for them.

“The monkeys from the nearby forest continue to damage the grains, particularly maize, for the last several months here. Despite informing this to the concerned wildlife department nothing has been done to stop this” a group of locals from Sumbal area told Greater Kashmir. They said monkeys cause a substantial loss to fruit crops, maize etc which has become a major concern for the farmers. The locals further said that these animals are harming crops and even people here due to which the people have become panicky.

 

 

Dilapidated foot bridge causes hardships to locals in Gund

The dilapidated foot bridge over nallah Sindh in Rayil area of tehsil Gund in Kangan sub division is causing hardships to the inhabitants.

 

The residents of Pathribal Rayil area are aghast against the authorities for failing to construct a foot bridge over Nallah Sindh in their area.

The locals said that they have been demanding the construction of the bridge for the last several years, however the authorities are least bothered over the issue. “We are apprehensive about the safety of our children and women folk who have to cross the nallah Sindh without any proper bridge” a local said.

“Despite repeated pleas the authorities have failed to construct the foot bridge over nallah Sindh in our area due to which the residents including the school going children, women folk and elderly people face immense hardships,” they said.

They added that when the water level increases in the nallah Sindh it poses a major threat to the lives of the people here.
