Heavy rains throw life out of gear in Pir Panjal

Rajouri, Apr 15: Day-long heavy rainfall on Monday across Pir Panjal region threw the normal life out of gear with traders in Mendhar town of Poonch district facing immense hardships after overflowing rainwater entered their shops.

The rainfall started Sunday night and continued till Monday late evening. Due to rainfall, people preferred to stay in their homes and thin movement of vehicles was witnessed on the roads.

In Mendhar town, rainfall created problems for traders with overflowing rainwater and a lack of proper drainage systems. Narrating their plight, the traders said that this border town does not have any municipality.

“On Monday, rainwater overflowing from drains entered into our shops, causing damage to products. The traders were seen struggling to stop the flow of water in the shops,” said Muhammad Javed, a local trader.

Similarly, vehicular movement on the Mendhar-Sakhi Maidaan Bridge also remained suspended for half an hour as the water of the river flowing beneath it started overflowing. Many other water bodies in the region also got flooded after the heavy rainfall.
