J&K Yateem Foundation observes Mother’s Day

Srinagar, May 8: A function was organised today in connection with the observance of Mother’s Day by J&K Yateem Foundation, at Central Office Baitul Hilal Jawahar Nagar Srinagar and Iqbal Nagar Sopore.

The programmes were aimed to pay tribute to the mother as an institution for building the best society in terms of morals, ethics, good deeds and service to humanity.

   

During the event in connection with mother’s day, a selected gathering of mothers of children staying at Baitul Hilal (orphanage) run by J&K Yateem Foundation, Srinagar at Jawahar Nagar Srinagar and Iqbal Nagar Sopore, participated in the programmes.

Besides, volunteers of JKYF and other guests from all the districts of Kashmir Valley participated in the programmes. The speakers underscored the need to address the mental and psychological health issues of the women in general and particularly of the poor and needy widows which remains by and large unaddressed in the society.

Speakers highlighted the valour, courage and strength of these widows to face the most hard life in absence of the support of their life partners.

Dr Roshan Ara, Director Centre for Women’s Studies & Research (CWSR) , University of Kashmir, highlighted the importance of mother’s stature particularly those of widowed mothers who are involved in the upbringing of their children. She appreciated and admired the valour, courage and strength of widows who are enduring difficulties in feeding their children and are primarily focussing on education and personality development of their children.

Nighat Shafi Pandit, Founder Chairperson Help Foundation exalted mothers of the orphan children to become strong enough to carry forward the mission of upbringing of their children in a best manner. She urged mothers to focus on the education of their children through the J & K Yateem Foundation, so that they embark on the mission of pursuing a better career.

Saima Hameed, Counsellor at Baitul Hilal, Srinagar stressed the need to address the mental health of womenfolk in general and the widows in particular.

Chairman J&K Yateem Foundation Mohammad Ahsan Rather in his vote of thanks said that for “us every day is our mother’s day and society must ensure their due respect, love and care.”

Aabid Salam, tutor at Baitul Hilal Jawahar Nagar presented a Kashmiri poem on the theme of “Stature of Mother” in his melodious voice which created emotional scenes among the audience. The poem is written by former Chairman JKYF Mohammad Rafiq Lone alias Rafiq Tahir Kawchaki.

Earlier, Baitul Hilal scholars Aabid Rashid and Sameer Ahmad recited verses of Quran and the Naat (praise poetry for Prophet Muhammad PBUH) respectively.

Javaid Jawad, Programme Executive Press & PR Division, conducted the proceedings of the programme whileas Bashir Ahmad Bhat, Public Relations Officer (PRO), JKYF arranged the logistics, lunch for mothers, etc. All the mothers were given gift packs.
