Police solve hit and run case in Kargil within 10 hours

Kargil, Apr 26: Police on Saturday said that they have solved a hit and run case in Kargil district within 10 hours by arresting the accused driver.

A tragic accident in Kargil had led to public outrage after 17-year-old student Basharat Ahmad was fatally struck by a JCB on Kargil TCP Road at Ando Colony on Friday morning.

   

Ahmad, a resident of Shamsha Kherboo, was on his way to school with a friend when the accident occurred.

The JCB machine driver had fled from the spot after the accident.

The community’s frustration grew due to perceived alleged delays in emergency and police responses. This prompted local protests demanding immediate action and accountability.

Superintendent of Police Kargil, Shree Raam while briefing media persons here on Saturday said that the hit and run case has been solved by the Kargil police within 10 hours of the incident, adding that the driver of the JCB has been arrested while the owner of the JCB has also been detained and further investigation is going on.

The SP said that a team headed by ASP Kargil, Nitin Yadav was constituted to crack the case and with the help of human intelligence and technical support the driver has been nabbed and arrested while the JCB has been seized.

He further said that the accused JCB driver seems to be a juvenile and the police is accordingly investigating the case. SP said that the police had reached the spot soon after getting the information.

ASP Kargil, Nitin Yadav said that further investigation in the case is going on and besides the enquiry into the alleged delay in medical and police responses after the accident is also being carried.
