Srinagar, Oct 9: Three militants and a woman were killed in separate incidents across the state since Monday evening, police said on Tuesday.
2 militants killed in Sopur
Police claimed it killed two militants at Sopur in north Kashmir's Varmul district.
A police spokesman said the policemen and soldiers cordoned off Wagub area on Tuesday morning and launched searches. "Militants present there opened fire on the joint search party which was retaliated triggering an encounter," the spokesman said.
He said in the ensuing gunfight two militants identified as Rafiq Ahmed Shah son of Noor-ur-din of Chanderkote Kreeri and Lateef Ahmed Ganie son of Muhammad Ramzan of Wagub were killed and a police constable sustained injuries.
The spokesman said the house of Ghulam Muhammad Mir son of Abdul Ahad where militants had taken refuge was also destroyed in the gunfight.
Militant killed in Kupwara
A militant was killed in an encounter with troops in frontier district of Kupwara in north Kashmir on Tuesday, Army said.
A defence spokesman said an unidentified militant was killed in a gunfight with the soldiers of 21-RR at Chalpora Handwara this morning.
Woman shot dead in Bandipore
A woman was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in north Kashmir's Bandipore district Monday night, police said on Tuesday.
A police spokesman said unidentified assailants fired upon Zaitoon, 40, wife of late Bashir Ahmad Mir at Check Arsala Khan Bandipore last night. She was rushed to hospital where doctors declared her brought dead.
