Srinagar, Dec 9: Three militants, including a commander of Hizbul Mujahideen, a soldier and a civilian were killed in separate incidents across the state since Friday evening, police and reports said on Saturday.
Police said three persons, including a civilian, were killed in an encounter at Mendhar in Poonch district on Saturday. The encounter broke after troops launched a search operation in Kantee Banola Mendhar. However, troops came under fire from a militant, triggering an encounter. In the ensuing gunfight that continued for hours, police said a militant commander Abu Suhail was killed.
A soldier Davinder Singh and a civilian identified as Sharief were also killed in the encounter.
Police said Hizb's Divisional Commander was killed in an encounter in Doda district on Saturday. The slain militant was identified as Muhammad Sharief alias Hikmatyar Khan son of Kaka Gujjar of Mahore.
A militant was killed in an encounter in Ganderbal on the city outskirts on Saturday night.
Police said the encounter broke out after troops of 42 battalion of paramilitary CRPF launched a cordon-and-search operation at Waskura. The militants present there refused to surrender and fired upon the troops, triggering a fierce encounter. In the ensuing gunfight, a militant identified as Abu Hafiz of Pakistan was killed.
