Srinagar, Oct 9: The Government imposed curfew in Palhalan and Delina areas in North Kashmir's Varmul district as a precautionary measure even as Hurriyat had called for a strike on Saturday.
Shops and businesses remained closed during the day. The public transport also stayed off roads. However, private transport plied normally in most of the areas of summer capital. Police said the situation remained peaceful during the day.
It said youth staged protests near Mochwa during which they pelted stones on police and CRPF.
They also blocked the road before being chased away by forces. No one was injured in the incident.
Reports from South Kashmir's Shopian town said people staged demonstrations and pelted stones on the deputy commissioner's office. Police used mild force to restore order in the town.
Reports of shutdown poured in from several other districts and towns across the Valley.
Reports from Pampore said that army and SOG men of J&K Police have let loose a reign of terror in the area.
"SOG men got violent after protests on Thursday and Saturday injuring several persons, including an elderly man. One of them has been admitted in SKIMS. Most of the youth have left their homes fearing raids by police," a delegation from the area said.
