Srinagar, Oct 9: Hurriyat Conference (G) chairman Syed Ali Geelani today said he will re-announce his program, a day after Mirwaiz Umar also announced to offer Eid prayers at Eid-Gah.
"We had already announced the programme for Eid prayer at Eid-Gah some days ago, while Mirwaiz announced it yesterday only. Since the timing of offering the prayer is same, it is likely to create sort of confusion and clash. We do not want that there should be any clash between the oppressed Muslims of Valley that too on Eid-ul-Fitr. So we are going to announce our programme on Thursday to avoid any clash. However, we will offer Eid Nimaz at Eid Gah only," Geelani said while addressing people at Masjid Usman, Rainawari here.
It is likely that Geelani might reschedule the timing of Eid prayers to avoid any clash. "We were happy to know that Eid prayers will be offered at Eid Gah this years after about two decades. But it seems that Government may benefit from the disunity of the Hurriyat groups and may not permit either group to offer prayers at Eid Gah on the pretext of apprehensions of clash," said Ghulam Rasool Khan, 70, while coming out of the mosque after listening to Geelani's address.
Meanwhile, Geelani has appealed the people of Jammu Kashmir to observe Jumat-ul-Wida as Yoom-i-Qadus for, according to him, Palestine and Kashmir issues had several commonalties.
"Both the regions are under foreign military occupation where Muslim majorities have been held hostage by the dint of gun for the past over 50 years. The common civilians in these regions are the worst victims of state terrorism and the occupation forces are carrying out genocide in these parts of world," said Geelani.
Geelani alleged that the world community failed to play its just role in settling these issues. He said, "As the whole Muslim world is observing Jumat-ul-Wida as Solidarity Day with the Palestinians, Kashmiris will also hold peaceful protest demonstrations to express solidarity with the people of Palestine."
Geelani appealed the people to observe simplicity and austerity while celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr. "We should, while celebrating Eid, remember all the martyrs who sacrificed their precious lives for the cause of freedom of our homeland," he said.
