Srinagar, Nov 9: Senior PDP leader and former deputy chief minister, Muzaffar Husain Baig, has said the state's political leadership, across the board, should exhibit unity so that the fresh resolution effort was not dissipated. "It would be a great loss for the people of Jammu and Kashmir if we fail to respond to the fresh opportunity," he said.
"There is a historic moment around for the permanent settlement of the Kashmir issue. But it necessitates that all the political – mainstream and separatist – and civil society voices from the state build consensus over some resolution formula and present it to Delhi and Islamabad," Baig said in a statement today.
Hailing PDP patron, Mufti Muhammad Sayeed, National Conference leader, Muhammad Shafi Uri, Hurriyat Conference (M) leader, Prof Abdul Gani Bhat and JKLF chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik's initiative in this regard, Baig said all other political forces from the state, including Syed Ali Shah Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Shabir Ahmad Shah, must also come to the joint platform and help in carrying the landmark initiative to its logical end.
"As has been proved by the history, we can't achieve anything through individual initiatives. We have to shed the egos for the larger goal as it is the only way forward," he said, adding that if the present opportunity was lost, the people would never forgive the leadership.
