Pulwama, Nov 9: The National Conference candidate, Ghulam Nabi Rattanpuri, for Pulwama in south Kashmir, escaped unhurt in the attack allegedly carried out by the supporters of another senior NC leader, Bashir Ahmed Nengroo, who was denied mandate by the party.
Witnesses told Greater Kashmir that trouble started, Sunday afternoon when Ratanpuri arrived at Nengroo's residence. "When he arrived the supporters of Nengroo were holding a meeting. As they saw Ratanpuri they were infuriated and attacked him," the witnesses said, adding, "Nengroo's timely intervention prevented his supporters from pouncing on Ratanpuri."
The witnesses said as Ratanpuri was trying to flee away from the spot, Nengroo's supporters pelted stones on his vehicles.
When contacted Bashir Ahmad Nengroo expressed dismay over the incident saying it was unfortunate. He blamed the party high command for such incident. "Ratanpuri had desired to visit my home despite my refusal" said Nengroo.
