Pattan (Varmul), Oct 9: Patients in this north Kashmir town suffer due to the absence of specialist doctors and blood bank at Sub District Hospital Pattan.
The residents told Greater Kashmir that absence of pediatrician, orthopediatrician and ophthalmologist was severely affecting medicare services. "In absence of specialists, we are compelled to refer patients to Srinagar, "they said. "Even as the hospital has three surgeons, but major surgeries are not done here due to non-availability of blood bank."
A surgeon wishing anonymity said, "We can't perform major surgeries in absence of blood bank as it is matter of life and death. We are handicapped without the blood bank facility."
Not only this, the patients also complained that even minor laproscopic surgeries were not performed in the hospital. "We don't have equipment to carry out the surgery as this type of surgery can't be done in a small operation theatre available here. We have raised the issue with higher authorities," the doctors said.
When contacted, chief medical officer Varmul, Dr Ghulam Jeelani Zargar, said that he has deputed specialist doctor after visiting the hospital. "I've also ordered them to perform all kind of surgeries."
On lack of blood bank, he said, that they don't need it.
