Srinagar, Nov 9: The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee, President, Professor Saif-ud-din Soz Sunday said the unity of all the three regions was important for the peace in the state.
Soz along with the former chief minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad addressed various gatherings at Kargil, Zanskar and Leh. "We stand for the unity of Ladakh and the unity of the state, which will alone lead to the peace and dignity," he said.
Soz expressed hope that people would vote for the Congress in the polls and ensure victory of all four candidates from Ladakh.
While addressing the gatherings, the former chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad said it was during the past three years that "the region witnessed tremendous development under the Congress-led coalition government."
"Umpteen roads, hospitals, schools, colleges have been constructed in the past three years while progress was seen in many other sectors," Azad said.
He said the promises made in 2002 election manifesto have been "fulfilled" by the government. He promised the people that if voted to power, a tunnel would be constructed at Zojila, extension of Kargil Airport would be done and a degree college would be set up at Khalsi, Leh.
He urged people to vote the independent candidate Haji Nissar Ali, whom the party is supporting in Kargil.
