Srinagar: The United Jihad Council has called for complete shutdown on the prime minister, Dr Manmohan Singh's visit to the valley on October 18.
In a statement faxed from AJK on Friday, the UJC spokesman, Syed Sadaqat Hussain, said India was trumpeting its readiness to hold talks with the Hurriyat Conference to ease the increasing international pressure as was in evidence recently by the stand taken by Lebanon, Turky, Saudi Arabia and the OIC as also the Chinese and US calls for early settlement of the Kashmir issue.
"The fact remains that the Indian troops are committing atrocities on the people of Kashmir and indulging in human rights violations for the past 62 years. It pursues the Israeli policy in Kashmir to strengthen its hold. Under this policy, India is gradually elbowing out Kashmiris from all administrative posts at all levels and replacing them by non-Kashmiris. The recent recruitments in education, revenue and other departments are the cases in point. Kashmiris are being marginalized in developmental schemes. Railway lines, roads and tunnels are built only for army movement," he said.
