Srinagar, Nov 9: United Jehad Council has sharply reacted to external affairs minister Pranab Mukherjee's statement that Kashmir is a bilateral issue between India and Pakistan, which has to be sorted out between the two countries.
In a faxed statement, UJC spokesman, Syed Sadaqat Hussain, quoting supremo, Syed Salah-ud-Din, said, "Pranab Mukherjee is unaware of the facts. Shimla accord and Lahore declaration couldn't solve the vexed Kashmir issue and such accords and declarations have no importance before the people of Jammu and Kashmir. Hundreds of rounds of bilateral talks between India and Pakistan couldn't solve the problem."
"Kashmir isn't a border dispute between India and Pakistan, but question of future of 1.30 crore people of J&K. The solution of the problem lies in the implementation of United Nations resolutions," he said.
Salah-ud-Din appealed, UN secretary general, Ban-Ki-Moon to use his good offices in the settlement of the K-issue.
He lashed out at New Delhi for gagging the media in Kashmir.
