Srinagar, Oct 9: Despite High Court orders, Geelani continued to be under house arrest at his Hyderpora residence Friday evening.
A heavy contingent of police remained outside the house while its gate was locked from outside. No one, including the media, was allowed to meet the leader. A Greater Kashmir team that went to meet Geelani late this evening was asked to wait till the policemen on duty would 'get permission from higher-ups.' However, the permission never came.
The policemen on duty said they hadn't received any directions for releasing Geelani. "We too heard that the High Court has directed that he should be released but we didn't receive any directions from our higher ups. Once we get the order, we will lift the restrictions forthwith," they said. "If our higher ups ask, we will have no objection in letting you in," they told the GK team.
They said only close relatives of Geelani were allowed to meet him and every other person needed permission from higher officials.
