Jammu, Jan 8: Police detained a local political leader for creating a scene in the court complex where Kashmir Bar Association President Mian Abdul Qayoom was produced for extension of police remand.
Eyewitnesses told Greater Kashmir that Qayoom was produced before the Chief Judicial Magistrate Jammu by police station Grota, which has registered a case against him under FIR No 107/2010 dated November 30, 2010 U/Ss 120-B, 121, 121-A, 124-A RPC r/w section 13 Unlawful Activities Act.
A local political leader, identified as Som Nath, suddenly intercepted Qayoom, who was being escorted to the court and asked him to say `Bharat Mata Ki Jai', eyewitnesses said.
"As Qayoom paid no heed, the person started raising slogans creating a scene in the court", they added. The trouble maker was detained by the police but was later released.
Meanwhile, the court extended police remand of Qayoom for another three days. Police had prayed for 15 days remand but the court observed that three days at this stage would be sufficient.
The court after hearing the prosecution and Mian Qayoom, in person, observed that the investigation in the case is at the initial stage and in view of the allegations made there are adequate grounds for remanding the alleged accused to police custody.
"The alleged accused produced in the Court today is remanded to police custody for three days up to January 10, 2011, and on the said date he be produced before the Court for further orders", the court held adding the accused be medically examined after every 24 hours and a report in this regard be submitted to this Court on the next day.
