PDP,NPP boycott Council
Jammu, Mar 1: Three PDP members and a lone National Panthers Party member Tuesday boycotted the proceedings of the Upper House "to protest the killing of innocent civilians in Kashmir valley."
Immediately after deputy chairman Arvinder Singh Micky took his seat and proceedings in the upper house started, PDP members Murtaza Khan, Sayed Asgar Ali and Nizam-u-Din Khatana got up from their seats seeking discussion on "the killing of innocent people in Kashmir valley and alleged human rights violation, since they were the public interest issues."
"The government should appoint a commissioner to investigate the killings and punish the culprits," Murtaza Khan was heard shouting as he, joined by his party colleagues, created uproar in the House.
"People are being arrested and harassed unnecessarily in Kashmir valley. They are living in fear and the government has adopted a casual attitude."
Amid slogans – PSA Sarkar Hai-Hai and Katil Sarkar Hai-Hai, the opposition members led by Murtaza Khan came close to the chair of the deputy speaker, who made repeated appeals to the members to allow the proceedings of the House to continue.
The PDP MLCs were soon joined by the National Panthers Party (NPP) MLC Rafiq Hussain Shah. He also raised the similar issue and demanded discussion on it.
The members continued their protest creating pandemonium in the House. As the deputy speaker paid no heed to their protest, the members staged a walkout from the House at 11.12 am.
The members stayed out of the proceedings of the House throughout the day.
