Hilal War calls for shutdown on Jan 21

Srinagar, Jan 11: Hurriyat Conference (M) leader and Jammu and Kashmir People’s Political Party (PPP) chairman, Engineer Hilal Ahmad War has called for shutdown in entire Civil Lines area on January 21 to mark the 24th anniversary of Gawkadal martyrs.
War, in a statement said, “more than 52 innocent civilians were martyred and more than 250 sustained bullet injuries at the hands of Indian troops on January 21, 1990.”
He urged people to observe shutdown in Gowkadal, Maisuma, LalChowk, BudshahChowk, Court Road, Ghoni Khan, Saraibala, Red Cross Road, AbiGuzar, Polo View, Residency Road, Regal Chowk, MA Road, Hari Singh High Street and adjoining areas.
“Gowkadal massacre was  a well thought out plan of the then Home Ministry of India to pave way for Kashmiri Pandits’ exodus from Kashmir and the conspiracy was hatched by the then Governor, Jagmohan,’ War said in the statement.
