Srinagar, Jan 15: The Employees' joint Action Committee (EJAC) president Abdul QayoomWani today flayed the plan to settle permanently the West Pakistan Refugees (WPRs) in Jammu and Kashmir, terming it (plan) a 'conspiracy to change the state's demography.'
"This decision depicts New Delhi's communal approach and it will pose a serious threat to the unity and integrity of Jammu and Kashmir. It will divide the state on communal lines and trigger an uncontrollable unrest, "a spokesman of the EJAC, in a statement today quoted QayoomWani as having said while addressing a meeting of EJAC office-bearers, warning that the decision would be resisted tooth and nail by the state employees.
"The West Pakistan refugees are non-state subjects and it will be sheer violation of state constitution to grant them permanent resident certificates (PRCs) and voting rights. Jammu Kashmir is known for its unity in diversity and its people will not allow such a nefarious political plan to take off. They will never allow anybody to fiddle with special status of the state," Wani said, urging people to maintain traditional communal amity, harmony and brotherhood at all costs and raise collective voice against the divisive communal forces.
