15 artisans get state award for promoting Handicraft industry

Ganai said the age old tradition of carpet weaving and other handicrafts in Jammu and Kashmir should be preserved in its original form.

Government today presented state awards to 15 artisans for their contribution in rejuvenating the handicraft industry in Jammu and Kashmir.

 

Financial Commissioner, Industries and Commerce, Khurshid Ahmad Ganai presented cheques, shawls and mementos to the artisans. 

 

Earlier, Ganai chaired a review meeting of Handicrafts department and received brief on the progress achieved under various programmes run by the department for the welfare of the artisans and development and promotion of the handicrafts sector in the State.

 

To assess the quality of raw material being provided to carpet weavers and other artisans, the Financial Commissioner recommended constitution of an Advisory Committee headed by the Director Handicrafts which shall submit its recommendations to the Government, an official statement said.

Director Handicrafts, Director Handloom, Director Industries & Commerce Kashmir, other officers and representatives of Chamber and Commerce were present on the occasion.
