Coalmine worker demanding pending salary sits on hunger strike in Rajouri

A coalmine worker, demanding release of his 19 months pending salary, is sitting on hunger strike inside Mehtka coalmine of Kalakote tehsil of the Rajouri district. 

The said coalmine worker namely BalKrishan son of Raja Ram is a resident of Mehtka area and is sitting on hunger strike inside the coal mine since last two days.

   

BalKrishan, a resident of Mehtka area of Rajouri district was working as coalmine worker and had to retire in June 2017 but he filed a plea in a court and the court directed Jammu and Kashmir Minerals Ltd not to retire him in the said month.

Based on court’s directive, the said worker has not been retired from his services but his salary has not been released for last nineteen months now.

“His salary is pending for last nineteen months now and he regularly worked during this very period,” another coal mine worker from the Mehtka coalmine told Greater Kashmir.

He said that his colleague BalKrishan is sitting on hunger strike inside the coalmine and is reluctant to come out until his pending salary is paid.

“SHO Kalakote and other officials and we tried to bring him out of the mine but he is adamant and not ready to end his hunger strike,” he further said.

Rajesh Gupta, manager of coalmines, said that the matter has been brought in the notice of the JK Minerals so that the said coal mine worker can be convinced and brought out of the coal mine.
