Flood-hit Batamaloo traders form self-help group

The Alliance was formed immediately after floods as the traders in Batmalloo were badly hit by deluge.

As the floods in Kashmir wreaked havoc with businesses, the traders in Batmaloo instead of watching the situation as passive spectators, rose to the situation and formed self help group named Rehabilitation Alliance to help flood-affected.

The Alliance was formed immediately after floods as the traders in Batmalloo were badly hit by deluge.

Chief Coordinator, Rehabilitation Alliance, Riyaz Ahmad said after seeing the despair and desperation of traders who had lost everything in the deluge “we decided to form an alliance which could provide succor to the flood-affected traders.”

“In this way the idea of Rehabilitation Alliance propped up. We have so far been successful in helping at least 247 traders by either providing them finance or helping them to get stock from wholesalers in order to restart their commercial activities,” he said.

Besides, helping the flood-affected traders on their own without waiting for government intervention the Alliance is organizing regularly awareness camps to educate traders and shopkeepers about insurance, taxation issues,” Joint Chief Coordinator, Abrar Ahmad Khan said.
