French expat in Kashmir collects garbage on her Sonamarg visit

In an act which can serve as inspiration, a French expat living in Srinagar on a visit to Sonamarg collected garbage littered on roads and other spots at the famous health resort.

Odile Patour, a woman actually hailing from France but is presently living in Srinagar, was on a visit to Sonamarg along with family and friends on Sunday and on her way back from Thajiwas glacier she spotted trash littered around and collected it in a sheet of cloth.

In a picture posted on her Facebook page, this expat woman is seen collected huge trash in a sheet of cloth.

“Picnic at Thajiwas glacier in Sonamarg and this is the picture of the collect of garbage on our way down. Unfortunately our bedsheet was not big enough. Brothers of Kashmir when shall we understand the need of a better consideration of our paradise,” posted Odile Patour on her Facebook wall.

She further wrote, “Many dust bins have been installed in Sonamarg and on the way to the Thajiwas glacier two months ago. Most of them have been damaged. Why? Do we want to live in the medieval darkness? Do we want Kashmir to progress? Introspection highly required”.

Meanwhile, the picture is being shared on social media as an act of appreciation and inspiration with environment lovers hailing the act of the foreign women.

A Facebook user wrote in reaction to the post, “High standards of civic sense, great respect to her”.

Another Facebook user wrote, ‘ Odile on a mission’.

The environmentalists have been urging the visitors to avoid littering trash on mountains and on roads particularly in tourist destinations to keep the environment safe from getting polluted.
